We are the only cat shelter in Amsterdam that handles the entire process: from street to home. We catch, care for, socialize, and place cats — in a calm environment designed exclusively for cats. And we help owners who are struggling to keep their cat.
From street to home — the full chain
Reporting & Catching
Based on reports, we drive throughout Amsterdam to catch cats with humane traps. Sometimes it takes days, sometimes weeks. We don't give up.
Medical care — in-house
In our own treatment room, cats are examined, dewormed, defleaed, vaccinated, and if necessary spayed or neutered. We also perform dental treatments and other procedures ourselves. For complex cases and intensive care, we refer to specialist clinics.
Socializing
We teach reserved or feral cats to trust people again. Sometimes it takes weeks, sometimes months. Every cat in need is welcome with us — we don't pick and choose what's easy.
Placing cats ourselves
Our cats go directly from our shelter to their new home. No extra relocation, no extra stress. We know our cats best and match them carefully.
Helping owners
With financial assistance, veterinary care at affordable rates, the pet food bank, and advice, we help people keep their cat. Because the best place for a cat is at home.
Cats in crisis
Is someone becoming homeless, hospitalized, or unable to care for their cat for any other reason? We take the cat in. No questions, no judgment.

History
SAZ was founded in October 1994. There was no agency where you could report stray cats. We filled that gap.
Since then, we have grown from a reporting point into Amsterdam's cat specialist — with our own shelter, in-house veterinary practice, and a team of 90 volunteers.
