Search tips
Walk through the neighborhood
Best time: early morning or late evening when it is quiet. Cats hide during the day, especially if they are not used to being outdoors.
Call and listen
Call your cat's name and stand still. Listen carefully. Sometimes you hear a soft meow from a shed, basement, or under a car.
Posters and flyers
Make a poster with photo, name and your phone number. Hang in the neighborhood, ask shops and community centers. Hand out flyers to neighbors.
Familiar scents outside
Put the litter box outside by your front door. Also put out a familiar blanket, basket, or worn clothing. The scent helps your cat find the way back. Leave some food out too.
Social media
Post on neighborhood apps (Nextdoor), local and regional Facebook groups for lost pets, and other social media.
Chip registration
Is your cat chipped?
Check if the details are correct! Wrong address or phone number = cat does not come home. Not chipped? Then finding your cat is much harder.
Moved and forgot to update?
That happens more often than you think. Update your registration immediately. Also report your cat as missing with your chip registry.
Need help?
We are happy to help you get the registration in order. You can also check yourself via chipnummer.nl.
Prevention
Chip your cat
Without a chip, your cat cannot be traced back to you in a shelter or on the street.
Sterilize
Spayed/neutered cats have less urge to roam.
Secure balcony and windows
Secure your balcony with a cat net and protect open windows. Especially in apartments, a fall from height is life-threatening.
